Renovation of 19th century barn for combined use

Originally used for farm storage, this marvelous 19th century barn was renovated by Breyer to house the clients’ extensive horticulture library, entertainment area and guest quarters. Special care was taken to preserve and accentuate the original post and beam construction inside; while outside clapboard was removed and then reused after insulating in order to reflect the barn’s age and wear.

A massive glass wall was engineered to create an uninterrupted view of the property’s vast acreage of ornamental gardens and horse pastures. Period flooring was installed and a unique floating staircase was constructed on site with a whimsical railing of antique farm and gardening tools. Custom lighting fixtures were crafted to blend with the barn structure.

The bathroom with its botanical theme sports a shower constructed from stone mined from the seas and imbedded with fossilized plant life. Oversized upholstery and the clients’ collection of antiques foraged on their various travels provide cozy comfort for easy country living.
